Thank-you Letter from Nagasaki Primary School in FUKUSHIMA

2011.12.13

We, National Federation of UNESCO Associations in Japan (NFUAJ), are supporting victimized schools by funding the procurement of necessary materials, equipments and activities so that students can receive quality education.
Let us introduce letters from the headmaster and students of Nagasaki Primary School in FUKUSHIMA that we have supported.

Headmaster Ms Akiko Takasawa
Nagasaki Primary School
Iwaki City
Fukushima Prefecture

On behalf of Nagasaki Primary School, I would like to thank you sincerely for your donation following the March 11 earthquake-tsunami disaster. The support you have provided came to us at a time when we had been discussing how to reestablish our children’s learning environment and the timely contribution from your institution was highly appreciated.

We have decided to use your donation to purchase book wagons for pupils. I cannot emphasize enough how important these reading spaces are for them, becoming a special place where they can come together at any time and indulge in their favorite books. We are deeply touched each time we see them reading, arriving at school in the morning or during break times. They are also touched by everyone’s caring support and I believe that our pupils are slowly but surely overcoming this difficult period.

It has been more than four months since the disasters of March 11. Our school buildings are not yet back in use due to serious flood damage of the first floor.  , but the neighboring Ena Primary School continues to accommodate us on a temporary basis. School life carries on within a limited space, but with the support and encouragement of so many people. We are confident that our children are gradually becoming their usual selves again – cheerful, caring and smiling. We hope that their character will be built up to understand how much others are caring, to appreciate solidarity and to overcome hardship.

Once again, I wish to express my gratitude to you and your institution for your most heart-felt support.

1.Thank you for the Book Wagon!

Our school was affected by the disaster with all books carried away by the tsunami. But thanks to UNESCO (NFUAJ), we can once again read books. We are reading a lot of books during recreation hours. I really like it as there are many choices such as stories and biographies. The books are fun and useful for us and I have rediscovered just how important and indispensable books are.
We have lost so many things, but at the same time, our KIZUNA has been strengthened.
Thank you once again for the Book Wagon.
We will continue to enjoy these precious books.

2.Thank you for the Book Wagon!

Each class has its own book wagon and it is very much appreciated.
I love reading books. We had received many books but without any bookshelves. I was a bit upset that there was no space for all our books, but now we can read all of them thanks to the Book Wagon. Thank you so much again.
We feel very sad that we have still not finished cleaning up, but we will do our best so that we can have our graduation ceremony.
